About Us

CrossFit Geelong is the home of the CrossFit Method in Geelong. Our clients are athletes, 65+ year olds, people bored with the traditional method, kids and everyday people wanting attention to detail. Our training can be scaled to any level of fitness. Come join our community and get see what makes us different.

Who are we?

CrossFit Geelong is led by a team of trainers brought together by the belief in the foundations of CrossFit. Our job to make you stronger, leaner, fitter and faster. We do this by applying the proven CrossFit method of “constantly varied, functional movement, executed at high intensity”. The results we see in our athletes (everyone is treated like an athlete here) are dramatic. We always promote an atmosphere of support and camaraderie at our facility, and find this a potent motivator in driving clients to achieve their goals.

What We Do

CrossFit is an empirically driven, clinically tested and community developed strength and conditioning program that seeks to elicit as broad as adaptation response as possible, utilising training formats derived from Gymnastics, Olympic Weightlifting, Sprinting and Combatcam disciplines. We focus on instructing the importance of proper movement through full ranges of motion and functional strength exercises. This produces what we believe to be a fitness level that is highly transferable to all athletic pursuits as well as daily functional physical tasks.

The CrossFit program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specialising. Our program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for men, women, children, elderly individuals with heart disease and professional rugby players.

How do we do it

World Class Fitness in 100 words:
Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast.
Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense. Regularly learn and play new sports.

Why We Do It

Here's some insight from Coach Glassman (CrossFit CEO) on the intent of CrossFit:
"CrossFit is in large part derived from several simple observations garnered through hanging out with athletes for thirty years and willingness, if not eagerness, to experiment coupled with a total disregard for conventional wisdom. Let me share some of the more formative of these observations:

  1. Gymnasts learn new sports faster than other athletes.
  2. Olympic lifters can apply more useful power to more activities than other athletes.
  3. Powerlifters are stronger than other athletes.
  4. Sprinters can match the cardiovascular performance of endurance athletes, even at extended efforts.
  5. Endurance athletes are woefully lacking in total physical capacity.
  6. With high carb diets you either get fat or weak.
  7. Bodybuilders can't punch, jump, run, or throw like athletes can.
  8. Segmenting training efforts delivers a segmented capacity.
  9. Optimizing physical capacity requires training at unsustainable intensities.
  10. The world's most successful athletes and coaches rely on exercise science the way deer hunters rely on the accordion

James (Manchild) McFadzean

CrossFit level 1 Certified

Certificate 3 & 4 in Fitness

James' athleticism and dedication to his training saw him selected to represent Victoria in the State Competition in '07, followed by selection for the National team in '08. With the Australian Gridiron team, James competed in the 2009 World Cup where, by travelling and competing along the west side of the United States, he found himself playing against US College Football teams. This experience taught him a lot about what 'dedication' to your training really means and what it takes to defeat your goals! Training and playing beside some of the best college Footballers in the US is described by James simply as an experience he "will never forget".

James has been working as a CrossFit Trainer for 3 years and practices what he preaches. And like his sport, James is all about high performance. His commitment, knowledge and his drive within the industry is a credit to himself and shows in his growing client list, coaching skills and ability to find an individuals strengths and weaknesses and then help them work towards a functional general fitness.

"Discovering the methodology of CrossFit makes complete sense to the human race! For the Athlete, Average Jo and the Rehab Client! A training method that removes short-cuts which can’t be seen by the average narrow minded fitness trainer. "The CF program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Combat, survival, many sports, and life rewards this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist." – This is my favorite quote! CrossFit has helped me, and my clients to drive forward to pursue an elite 'generalized fitness', which is a very unique thing. Unique in the way that it not only allows you to discover your own personal strengths and weaknesses, but how it allows you to develop a new personal and psychological skill-set which, when put together, helps you begin to understand what 'True Fitness' really is! Train and develop new skills!"

Cam had always been active during his adolescent days being involved in swimming, achieving State and National Championship qualifying times for his age groups, and Basketball where he where he was selected in the Geelong U16’s, U18’s and U21’s Representative sides. It was when Cam was at University in Melbourne, where travel and study took up most of his time that he had to cut back his sporting commitments, and over the next 3-4 years Cam found that he had blown out from a fit 75kg out to 100kg. He puts this down to poor diet, alcohol and limited physical activity. One day he looked at himself in the mirror and knew that something had to be done. Over the next 12 weeks through loads of hard work, dedication and a healthy eating plan, Cam lost an amazing 27kg! Dropping back down to weigh 72kg, so Cam knows how it feels to be overweight, but more importantly knows what it takes to get the weight off.

This is how Cam got into the fitness industry, wanting to help other people make real life changes and improve their quality of their life. Completing his Certificate 3 & 4 in Fitness, Cam started working at Physical Revolution in 2008 and was introduced to CrossFit and has never looked back since!

"CrossFit has opened my eyes to what ‘True Fitness’ really is and how to train for it. CrossFit has helped me to develop a level of generalized fitness that I never dreamed possible, I’m full of energy, faster, stronger and more powerful then I have ever been. The CrossFit program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Combat, survival, many sports, and life all reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist. The CrossFit methodology makes complete sense and is applicable for everyone from your Athlete striving for ‘Functional Dominance’ to your Every Day Person, Rehab Client and Pensioners striving for ‘Functional Competency’. I still want to help my Clients improve their Quality of Life and feel better, but now I do this by opening their eyes to what ‘True Fitness’ is. I want all my clients to be able to perform any given task at any given time no matter what challenges life throws their way, and I achieve this by following the basic CrossFit principle of ‘Constantly Varied Functional Movement performed at a High Intensity.’ Basically I train my clients for ‘True Fitness’ which will make life easier!”
