Selina Mitchell ( “Aunty”) – Administrator

When you come into CrossFit Geelong, there’s a very good chance my face will be the first you see! Known as “Aunty”, I love to see new faces, transformations, and the camaraderie unique to our fitness environment.
How I got here
Not so long ago, at the tender young age of 46, I was working at the Deakin University Library. After a decade in-doors surrounded by books and silence, a lunch date with my niece Corrine gave me the opportunity for a much-needed change. Beginning with once a week reception work at Physical Revolution, six years and a forest of paperwork later, I now work in CrossFit Administration and greet all the members.
I’m proud to say that Bootcamp at Physical Revolution helped me transition from a shy and quiet woman into a confident, team playing, chatting machine. The conservative librarian could finally let her hair down! This change led to my involvement and eventual instruction of the Bootcamp groups, where I found my love for helping people build their own self-confidence and fitness. Naturally this continued into CrossFit training which, when combined with my newly found love of social interaction, paved the way to my position at the front desk.
I’m an Administrator Plus; having Certificate III and IV Fitness and am Level 1 CrossFit certified.
Why I do what I do
For me, the CrossFit community is like a family, friendship group and self-development course rolled into one. I’m blessed with a supportive husband and four beautiful children (three of whom are CrossFitters) who support me, as well as a lot of unofficial nephews and nieces at the Box!
I often go out for coffee or lunch with a few of the members who have become close friends, and in March 2012, I even entered the ‘Tough Mudder’ challenge at Philip Island. A 20km military-designed course with 28 obstacles in 4.5 hours is pretty good for a 52 year old!
Swing by the front desk where I’ll be the first to remember your name! Because whether you’ve come for a trial, your fundamentals or the WOD, you’ll find there is always room for a friend at CrossFit Geelong.
